How to verify a clinical psychologist in India

Ask for the RCI CRR number

In India, “Clinical Psychologist” is a protected title tied to registration with the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). A registered clinician will have a CRR number and shouldn't mind being asked for it.

Check it on the RCI register

The council's official site is rehabcouncil.nic.in — the Central Rehabilitation Register (CRR) is the place a number can be checked against a name.

Look at the qualification

The standard clinical qualification is an RCI-recognised M.Phil in Clinical Psychology (increasingly Psy.D). An M.A/M.Sc alone, or a short certificate, is not the same license to the title.

Fair questions to ask any therapist

What's your registration number? What approaches do you use, and why for my concern? What are your fees and cancellation terms? Every good clinician answers these plainly.

Reasonable caution

Be careful with anyone guaranteeing cures, quoting success rates, or discouraging you from asking about credentials. Good care doesn't need those claims.
